Somatic Competence® Yoga Training School
The first Higher Education School in Italy with a trauma-informed approach, founded on the clinical experience of Istituto di Psicosomatica Integrata.
Are you ready to transform your way of teaching yoga?
-
Have you ever thought that the way you practice yoga could offer more to your students?
-
Would you like to create a safe relational environment for yourself and your students?
-
Would you like to help your students reclaim their bodies and regulate their emotions to better cope with the stress of daily life?
-
Are you curious about the social, relational, and neurobiological aspects of trauma?

Integrating psychological and somatic aspects can enhance the effectiveness of your teaching and highlight your unique qualities, improving both your and your students' experience and personal growth. Additionally, it can make managing practical aspects of daily teaching easier, such as payments, delays, rule enforcement, and handling moments of crisis during class.

Drawing from various international models, we have created the Somatic Competence® Yoga Training School within Istituto di Psicosomatica Integrata, which has been operating for 30 years with an innovative clinical model, offering a unique and advanced approach.

As yoga teachers, we often explore different approaches through various trainings, acquiring a rich theoretical and practical background. However, translating this knowledge into daily teaching and making it our own can be complex, as we inevitably encounter the vulnerabilities of ourselves and our students, as well as the challenges of the world around us. Facing these difficulties with the support of targeted tools and a team of colleagues who share the same challenges can become a valuable ally for personal and professional growth.
Our Advanced Training for yoga teachers is developed in three progressive levels, designed for those who want to enrich their practice by integrating new knowledge and skills.
Level 1 focuses on deepening topics related to trauma and the trauma-informed approach, providing a solid theoretical and practical foundation.
Then, with Level 2, the approach becomes more experiential and individualized, where the practice of the Somatic Competence® model takes center stage.
Finally, Level 3 promotes group learning and professional growth, through comparison and sharing with other teachers and supervisors.

The importance of training on somatic-relational aspects related to trauma for yoga teachers
In the acceleration that characterizes the digital age, our body remains constantly hyper-activated. We live at the mercy of the flow of events, constantly struggling to process the experiences we go through. These experiences remain in the body, and clinically, we observe alterations in the sleep-wake cycle, appetite, tolerance to waiting, and so-called "psychosomatic" symptoms.
Hyper-modernity continuously proposes this somato-psychic dysregulation, which predisposes us to trauma. In fact, trauma is not only the result of dramatic events but rather the intersection of adverse conditions or dysfunctional relationships with the difficulty of restoring a sense of experience.
Therefore, it is of utmost importance, especially in an intimate and deeply focused setting like a yoga class, to consider that each student brings their entire story onto the mat, including both recent and ancient traumas. The role of the yoga teacher can be crucial in determining how the student inhabits their traumatized body.
A teacher who faces such complexity needs to be able to prevent and manage critical situations where trauma resurfaces in its disorganizing force.
For a yoga class to be trauma-informed, the teacher must have a deep understanding of the neurobiological and psychological processes underlying trauma and be familiar with their own traumatic experiences.
Our goal is to support yoga teachers who aim to care for their students with an integrated approach that takes into account the delicate body-mind connection.
